Take a ride down Mill Hill Road and you’ll find the bustling community called T.W. Nickerson. Peter Hopple, owner of the busy business, admits there is a lot going on. Along with supplying landscapers and homeowners with mulch, compost, and stone, they offer excavating (lot clearing, driveways, dredging, demolition, etc.), delivery (one flat fee) and sewer connections.

Sewer connections are the talk of the town, right? “We intend to do over 40 percent of the sewer connections,” he said. “We can give you an estimate on the entire hook up, which includes an assist in the design to restore any landscaping disturbed and engineering facets of the entire project. Our office can facilitate any portion of the job from the state financing available to discounts offered if everyone in the same neighborhood signs on. One call does it all!” He encourages anyone to call and get the information you’ll need for the hook up. Or you could stop by the office to get that info and say hi to Winnie the dog.

“Winnie is very popular,” said Brenda Fellows, one of the T.W. Nickerson office employees. They do Title 5 septic system installations and town water service installations, too.

Hopple is also very proud that T.W. Nickerson is responsible for a good portion of the recycling from waste business in our area. “We accept clean brush (logs, branches, stumps with clean roots) and grind them into our ‘house mulches.’ Grass clipping, plant debris, pine needles, all become compost; and asphalt, brick or concrete with rebar (ABC) becomes ‘T-base or crushed concrete.’ Yard debris is recycled into loam and compost. We turn waste into usable products!

“I’m a really nice guy,“ he said with a big grin. “We love being here and feel so grateful.” Hopple bought the well-established business (since 1962) about four years ago. “Many of our employees have been here for over 20 years, and all are local people.”

T.W. Nickerson is the largest supplier of quality landscape products in our area. They sell stone, mulch, compost, organic loam, crushed seashells, screened sand, driveway stone and stone for stone walls, landscape ties and timbers, plus pavers and patio materials. “We sell the stone, mulch, loam, compost, sand or shells by the cubic yard or if you need a very small amount you can get it for $3 a bucket or $5 a fish tote!” The mulch alone is offered in many styles and colors, plus they offer firewood, grass seed, specialty garden tools, and so much more. And they will answer your questions about your project, any town requirements or can fill you in on all the delivery options.

If you like to garden or dabble in landscape design, T.W. Nickerson should be your first stop!
