ORLEANS – Fire officials responded to Cumberland Farms on Route 6A Monday after dry chemicals were discharged above the store’s gas pumps.
Orleans Fire Chief Geof Deering said that fire crews were called to the store just after 1:30 p.m. Monday to respond to an apparent fire suppression system malfunction.
Deering said two people were exposed to the dry chemical, which he said was a “fire extinguishing agent.” They were evaluated at the scene but neither was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further treatment, he said.
An employee at the store Monday said that the store would remain open, but that gas service will be unavailable until the property is cleaned up. That could take “a day or two,” she said.
“We don’t know what happened,” she said.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
