The Goose is back! This winter, the Wild Goose Tavern in the majestic Chatham Wayside Inn took a four-month break for some major renovations. “We’ve expanded the bar space, and redid the floors and the lighting in the dining room, put in a new sound system and added a lounge area with soft seating,” said Restaurant Manager Jillian Kelley. “The new bar has 26 seats. And the added lounge space is roomy yet intimate.”

“TPG (Hotels and Resorts) along with General Manager Cletus Pancham created the design," said Executive Chef Shane Coughlin. And yes, the murals around the room are intact.

“I’m very excited about the reopening," Kelley said. “The space lends itself well to casual, relaxed drinks with an appetizer in an atmosphere where locals will feel like they're on vacation!”

Kelley said along with the new look, they’ve created a new menu, creative cocktails and will debut a new wine list.

“Jill can take a victory lap on the wine list and everything else she has contributed,” said Coughlin. “Both the wine list and the new cocktail menu are great.” The menus (breakfast, brunch, lunch, lighter fare and dinner) have many new items but kept some of your favorites, added Coughlin. Yes, the Goose fries are there! And yes, Coughlin is back, too! Following his culinary education at Johnson & Wales, he was executive chef at the Wayside from 1996 to 1998, then food and beverage director and eventually general manager from 2000 to 2022.

“I love this business,” Kelley said. “I’ve been working in the restaurant business since I was 14 years old. I’ve worked with a lot of bartenders and learned a lot from all of them. And I’m thrilled to be working with Shane again.” Kelley worked here under the previous ownership, too.

“Our goal is to become your favorite restaurant on Cape Cod, and to achieve this, we need leaders who are skilled, adaptable, and creative. We're very lucky to have such distinguished individuals from Chatham as part of our team. We believe these leaders possess the understanding, skills and strategic insight necessary to take our restaurant to greater levels of success,” said Pancham.

The new space lends itself even better for functions, private parties, wedding receptions, you name it! Coughlin and Kelley were also quick to point out the outside space, a deck and a patio on Chatham’s lively Main Street and a secluded patio off the bright back dining room.

After a long winter, it’s especially nice to say “Meet me at the Goose!” again.
