HARWICH – Someone had to step up to set the tone for Monomoy, and Seamus St. Pierre was more than happy to be the one to do so.

The junior from Chatham made sure the Monomoy boys soccer team experienced a fast start when he opened the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute of Monday’s Division 4 state tournament first-round matchup against Littleton.

“It was a tempo-setter,” St. Pierre said of the opening goal. “Someone’s gotta do it. I stepped up.”

The junior added another goal in the second half to help the Sharks pull away for a 5-1 victory over the visiting Tigers. With the win, Monomoy advances to the Round of 16 against No. 8 Frontier Regional.

As pleased as St. Pierre was to contribute with a pair of goals, he said the team’s goals extend far beyond an opening-round victory.

“It means a lot, but we’ve got bigger things to think about,” he said. “We’ve got the next round, the next round, and the next round.”
