636 Main St.

Chatham

Open Daily through the holiday season

“The first day she opened her shop, someone stole her sign!” Janet Whittemore told me. “And I found it in my front yard!” Whittemore, now a customer of Tanika’s, lives on Route 28. “We’ve been friends ever since!”

That sign has been firmly in place since then. Owner Tess Schiffmann opened her shop, Tanika’s, on Chatham’s Main Street in 2007. “My shop is the coolest shop in Chatham!” laughs Schiffmann. But seriously, her shop is cool. It carries women’s clothing and accessories, with a great selection of home décor items. The merchandise is hard to classify. Schiffmann has a knack for the fun and funky in practical items like socks, hats and sweaters, but there’s plenty for the fastidious one on your holiday list, too. She carries an excellent selection of costume jewelry that varies from the classic to the unusual for both young and old. Customers love her headbands, hair clips, purses and handbags all amidst racks of dresses, sweaters, blouses, skirts, pants and more. Ask about the “cape clips” she carries; they’re so practical and stylish.

That theme of classic and unusual expands into her gift and home décor items where you’ll find novelty wine glasses, coffee mugs, scented candles, taper candles, placements, napkins and more for your tabletops, and more! It’s a treasure trove of fun! You could spend hours in this shop.

There’s a great section of Frasier Fir scented candles and creams from Thymes. “Smells like Christmas!” She carries other scented creams and candles.

Looking for gifts in Chatham? Start here! Tanika's is at the west end of Main Street right across from the Chatham Orpheum Theater. In fact, stop in before or after the movie.

Schiffmann is a personable and interesting owner. She’s the mother of a 6-year-old and lives in Sandwich with her husband, who owns Flooring Matters.

If you stop in this month, you could receive a pair of holiday socks with your purchase (while supplies last) and if you spend $100 or more in her shop, she has an additional gift for you!

“Come in and find out!” says Schiffmann. She likes to surprise her customers!
