Orpheum Screens ‘A Cape Cod Christmas’ With Director Meet-and-greet

On Thursday, Dec. 14 The Chatham Orpheum Theater will hold a screening of the 2021 holiday film “A Cape Cod Christmas” including a meet and greet with Cape Cod-based director John Stimpson. A reception will precede the film at 6:30, with showtime at 7 p.m.
“A Cape Cod Christmas” promises an opportunity to rediscover romance with an ocean view. Margot (Katie LeClerc), a children’s book author, comes down to Cape Cod for one last Christmas dinner with her disagreeable siblings before they have to sell their family beach house—a home base of family tradition while their parents were alive. She is heartbroken to have to sell and commissions a painting of the house as a keepsake from a local artist whose gallery she’s always loved. It turns out the artist is her childhood sweetheart Christian (Brent Bailey) with whom she had a puppy-love romance when they were 12 years old. He’s a painter of much greater renown than Margot realizes. Together they devise a plan to keep the house she loves so dearly.
The film was shot in Falmouth during the pandemic, and features many prominent locations throughout town. Director Stimpson, a longtime fixture of the holiday film genre, has made a total of eight Christmas films for television. In addition to “A Cape Cod Christmas,” Stimpson has directed “A Kiss for Christmas” (2011), “The March Sisters at Christmas” (2012), “The Spruces and the Pines” (2017), “Christmas a la Mode” (2019), “Christmas on Ice” (2020), “A Playful Romance (2021), and “Letters to Santa” (2023), along with numerous non-Christmas related films. Stimpson has won numerous film festival honors for his films “The Winter People” (2003), “Soul Candy” (2017) and “Ghost Light” (2018).
Stimpson and his family are summer residents of the Cape.
