HARWICH – The first Christmas in Harwich Festival Weekend was considered a success, despite Sunday’s rain, which canceled events. The weather on Friday and Saturday cooperated, bringing large crowds to the Harwich Port stroll on Friday evening and to events across town throughout Saturday.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cyndi Williams said the Christmas stroll on Friday evening drew the largest crowd she has seen since coming to work for the chamber. And as many as 100 people followed the performances of “A Dickens Of A Christmas - A Christmas Carol In Harwich” in Harwich Center.

“I had so many compliments from people about the great activities,” Williams said. “I was absolutely overcome with how engaged everyone was and I have to say the best moment was seeing Scrooge smiling and jumping down Main Street saying ‘I’m alive I’m alive’.”

Sunday’s rain dampened the festival spirit, canceling the Christmas parade and additional Christmas Carol performances. Williams said details are being worked out to hold the theater production on another day
