Along For The Ride: Cape Cod Christian Academy Learns Physics With Hands-On Project

Last week, Cape Cod Christian Academy students engaged in a hands-on physics project called “Learning in Motion.” Middle schoolers got the chance to design and build model roller coasters to explore how energy is stored, transferred and transformed. PHOTOS COURTESY OF DR. TRACY WATERS

At first, students used paper to construct their coasters, experimenting with height, speed and track design.

They then used a more durable material for the final products, which were tested last Thursday.

Beyond the science concepts, the project emphasizes collaboration, communication, adaptability, creativity and problem-solving. Students work in teams, test and revise their designs, and explain their thinking and results, developing skills that extend well beyond the classroom, said associate head of school Lisa Radtke.
