Helen M. Hark

April 24, 2024

Helen M. Hark of North Chatham, MA passed away peacefully April 19, 2024 surrounded by her family. Helen was born December 31, 1930 in Buffalo, NY to Herbert and Margaret Klein. Being a very talented artist, Helen planned to pursue graphic arts after graduating high school, but was swept away by her best friend’s brother, Matt Hark. During their wonderful, loving marriage of 64 years, Helen and Matt had three children; Elaine Butyneski (Richard), Nancy Tuttle (John), and Richard Hark. Helen is also survived by her brother, John Klein, and grandchildren, Sarah Berlinghoff (Kevin), Jennifer Berlinghoff, Kristin Hark, Charlotte Butyneski, Michael Butyneski, and Mark Butyneski, as well as great-grandchildren.

Helen worked as a typist, but their dream was to retire on Cape Cod after many family vacations there. With the help of their son Richard, they built their dream home in Brewster, MA in 1987. After a variety of jobs, Helen found her calling at Harwich Middle School where she worked as “lunch lady extraordinaire” with her partner-in-crime, Debbie, until she was 80 years old. Helen worked hard, had incredible energy, and never aged until her stroke. She lost her speech but after much determination and therapy she retrained her brain and her first complete sentence was, “I CAN DO IT!” — that was her motto for life.

Helen was an incredible, strong, ever-supportive, loving, non-judgmental woman. She loved her family, friends, and all animals. The Rainbow Bridge will be a stampede for Helen.

Matt is waiting with open arms for his one and only love. Rest in peace — we are all better people for knowing Helen.

Alvederzane baby!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local animal shelters in memory of Helen.

There will be a private service, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
