Judith Tierney

April 10, 2024

Judith (Judy) Tierney passed away Tuesday March 26 surrounded by her loving family. Judy is survived by her three children, and their spouses, James (Marian), of Stony Point NY, Brian, and Betsy (John) of Harwich, her two grandchildren, Caitlynn Hopper and Connor Tierney and numerous nieces and nephews. Judy is predeceased by her husband, Ned Tierney, her parents, George and Dorothy, her sister, Carol DeJulia and her sister-in-law, Nancy Slogar.

Judy was born May 11, 1939, in Stony Point NY. She attended Haverstraw High School and Centenary College.

Judy was the proud owner of High Tor Ceramics, a hobby that started with taking a class, to running classes in her basement. She created thousands of Christmas trees and painted many eyes on figurines. We have many memories of the dog stealing sponges during classes. She loved camping and watching sunsets at Rock Harbor with Ned and her family.

Judy and Ned retired to Cape Cod in 1996 and were very active in the community. Judy thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Brooks Academy Museum, Harwich Garden Club and St. Christopher’s Church. She loved being a “mermaid,” swimming two times each week at Liberty Commons water aerobics, where she made many friends. She also loved sharing her knitting projects and her famous spiced cranberry jam.

Judy will be remembered for her infectious laugh and smile. She is now reunited with her giggle girls - her sister Carol and cousin Margie.

The family would like to thank the staff of Broad Reach Liberty Commons, who cared for her during the last three years with love and compassion. The family also wishes to thank Broad Reach Hospice for their care during her last days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation in Judy’s name to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Chatham, or Liberty Commons Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in North Chatham.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, on April 20, 2024, at 10 am at 625 Main Street, Chatham. Another Funeral Service will be held, at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 10am, at 28 Chapel Street, Garnerville, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 140 US-9W, Haverstraw, NY.
