Athlete Of The Week: Zach Coelho

NORTH EASTHAM – The saves keep on coming for Zach Coelho.

A few weeks removed from manning the goal for the Nauset boys hockey team during its run to the Division 3 state championship at TD Garden, Nauset junior Zach Coelho continues to make plays between the pipes.

The Truro resident made seven saves — including four in the second half — to help the Nauset boys lacrosse squad hold off Canton for an 8-3 victory on Saturday.

“Our defense was huge,” Nauset coach Jesse Peno said. “Defense and our goalie — Zach stood on his head.”

Coelho is one of many hockey players on this year’s lacrosse team, including fellow Truro resident Logan Poulin, who tallied three points in Saturday’s win.

“They came into lacrosse even hungrier,” Peno said of the hockey players. “Talking with Logan and Zach, they want to get into this season and continue on because they want to win and they want to compete.”
