HARWICH – Finn Hyora has stayed plenty busy this school year.

It began in the fall, when the Monomoy junior from Chatham helped guide the Sharks boys soccer team to the Division 4 state final. In the winter, he played a key role in the boys basketball team’s run to the Division 4 state tournament.

Just a few weeks removed from a 61-53 overtime loss to Bourne in the basketball tournament’s Round of 16, Hyora tossed a gem on Monday in Monomoy’s 10-0 (6 innings) victory over Cape Cod Tech at Whitehouse Field.

“Finn worked hard in the offseason,” Monomoy coach Steve Porter said. “He plays three sports, so he does a good job of keeping himself in shape and practicing baseball while still playing basketball. So, it doesn’t surprise me at all to see him come in here being ready to go.”

Hyora tossed six innings of one-hit ball and struck out five batters while walking just one.

“Props to them, they came out and had good at-bats against me,” Hyora said, “but I felt like in a game like that, you just have to do your thing. I was throwing strikes and letting my infielders make plays behind me, and that’s what you’ve got to do.”

Hyora said he’s hoping to continue his playoff streak by helping to lead the baseball squad back to the tournament.

“We’ve been able to make the playoffs my first two years on varsity,” he said. “It’s good to have that experience, but we haven’t been able to make it past the first round, so we’re definitely looking to not be the Cinderella story this year and to make a deep run.”
