HARWICH – As Karah Deveau prepares to begin the final sports season of her high school career, the Harwich resident can’t help but stop and wonder where the time has gone.

“It’s weird,” Deveau said, “I feel like just a few months ago I was a sophomore.”

An impact player on the soccer pitch, the basketball court and the lacrosse field, Deveau will look to be a key contributor for the lacrosse team’s midfield as she embarks on the final season of her senior year.

She returns as the leading goal scorer from last year’s 16-4 team and will serve as a captain this spring.

“Karah is a great leader,” Monomoy’s second-year coach Brendan Purcell said. “She’s going to do a great job helping the team even out and make sure that everyone is stepping up to the plate to do their role.”

Although the team lost key seniors Lucy Mawn and Angelina Beasley to graduation, Deveau is confident that this year’s team will benefit from being mostly intact.

“It’s good that we only lost two because our team is already kind of built,” she said. “We have some new players, some eighth graders that are showing some real potential. I feel like we already have that glue and that chemistry as a team that we had last year and we get to add some new players, so I think that’s great.”

After gaining valuable experience as an underclassman, Deveau said each year has become easier for her.

“I’m glad I started young because it’s gotten a little easier every year,” she said. “I feel like the passing and shooting has gotten a little easier and the chemistry has gone up.”
