First Responders Raise Donations For Relay Event Supporting Heroes In Transition

CHATHAM – In late April, first responders from around Cape Cod will take part in a 36-hour relay race across the Cape, raising money for veterans in need, and Chatham’s Coast Guard crew and the town’s police, fire and harbormaster staff are looking for support. Known as Ruck4HIT, the 200-mile relay benefits Heroes in Transition, the Mashpee-based nonprofit that provides services and financial support for military families. Each athlete will run two to four miles at a time with a 10- to 20-pound rucksack on his or her back.
“The race is a symbolic challenge of what these men and women go through daily to ensure our country remains safe for us all to enjoy,” said Petty Officer Robert Fluke of Coast Guard Station Chatham. “We are accepting any donation toward the fundraising goal of $8,000.” Donations can be made online at tinyurl.com/4avnkhpr. As of early this week, the team had raised several hundred dollars toward its goal; the relay is scheduled for April 26 and 27.
