HARWICH – It was one of the more electrifying first quarters you could possibly see, and Tamarr Washington was a big reason why.

The junior point guard from Harwich helped ignite the Monomoy boys basketball team on Friday night, scoring 10 of his 18 total points in the first quarter. The Sharks jumped out to a 14-0 lead and were ahead 22-5 at the end of the first quarter en route to a dominant 61-44 victory over Cohasset.

“As I start to hit shots, it really becomes contagious,” Washington said. “If I hit them, then the next player is going to hit them and it trickles down the lineup.”

Washington buried two 3-pointers in the first quarter to go with a pair of 2-point field goals. He made two more triples during the third quarter as a part of an 8-point second half.

The junior has been a key contributor for Monomoy during the team’s 12-4 start in what has been his first season with the program after transferring to Monomoy from Cape Cod Academy at the start of the year. The move has been especially enjoyable because it reunited him with the team’s collection of juniors who have been playing together since they were youngsters.

“It’s been really exciting,” Washington said. “From playing with them back in fourth grade all the way up until eighth, then to leave and come back to a more flourished and ready team, it really has been fun and has helped take the workload off of me.”
