Athlete Of The Week: Jordyn Wilson

FALL RIVER – It’s not just that Cape Cod Tech junior Jordyn Wilson received the “Clutch Player of the Year” award last year from head coach Calvin Castillias for his efforts during the 2025 football season.

Castillias created the very honor specifically for Wilson, who last Friday helped cap the Crusaders’ 7-0 regular season in 2026 with a 49-0 win over Atlantis Charter.

At wide receiver, Wilson caught four passes for 90 yards and a touchdown (and a 2-point conversion).

At cornerback, Wilson notched an interception and two tackles.

“He has risen his game up,” Castillias said.

The award built by Castillias for Wilson last season was most fitting. Wilson really did come up huge during Cape Tech’s head-turning run through the vocational playoffs.

In the first round, he made a jumping, one-handed touchdown snag on fourth-and-9 from the 23-yard line that put the Crusaders ahead against Franklin Tech.

In the championship game, it was Wilson that caught the halfback pass on the trick play that gave Cape Tech the lead in the eventual title win (one of two touchdowns, plus a 2-point conversion, he had that night).

But apart from the clutch moments, it’s also how Wilson has made those catches.

“He's a highlight reel,” Castillias said.

That absolutely was the case against Atlantis Charter.

On a third-and-11 in the red area right at the end of the first quarter, senior quarterback Daniel Handville moved the pocket to the right and targeted Wilson as he ran a 10-yard route.

Wilson rose over two Atlantis Charter defenders to snatch the ball (the most apt verb here would be “Mossed”), then landed and dashed into the end zone.

“I couldn't be more proud of the special talent that he is, and he just keeps growing and growing,” Castillias said.
