Kathryn Frances (Tangney) DiModica

October 14, 2026

Kathryn “Kay” Frances (Tangney) DiModica, 84, of Sudbury and Harwich Port, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026.  Born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Thomas F. Tangney and Helen (Lamont) Tangney.  Kathryn attended St. Agatha’s Elementary school and graduated from Fontbonne Academy. She received her BA in English from Regis College and her Master’s in English from Boston College.
Her teaching career spanned many years starting out as an English teacher in Somerville Public Schools, Lincoln Elementary and then spent years as a substitute teacher at Lincoln-Sudbury High School.
Kathryn also worked alongside her husband, Michael, playing an integral role in M.J. DiModica Excavating, the well-established company he founded in Sudbury. Today, the family legacy continues as the business is operated by their sons under the name M.J. DiModica and Sons.
Kathryn was a resident of Sudbury, Massachusetts for over 62 years, spending her formative years in Quincy. An active member of her community and a longtime communicant of St. Anselm Church in Sudbury, Kathryn embraced life with vitality and enthusiasm. She was a member of the Allen Harbor Yacht Club in Harwich Port, and an avid golfer at the Cranberry Valley Country Club—enjoying a round on the course with friends just a day before her passing.
Kathryn was a remarkably talented craftswoman who created intricate knitwear and stunning Nantucket baskets to adorn the homes of those she loved. She spent her summers creating beautiful memories with family and friends at her seasonal home, always accompanied by her faithful golden retriever, Brady.
Family was the cornerstone of Kay’s life. She was the devoted wife of the late Michael J. DiModica, Jr., who predeceased her on July 20, 2021, after 56 years of marriage. She leaves behind her loving sons, Michael J. DiModica, III and his wife Wendy, and Thomas F. DiModica and his wife Jennifer, all of Sudbury; and her cherished granddaughters, Isabella F. DiModica and Brianna DiModica, who were her greatest source of pride and joy. Kay’s legacy of kindness, devotion, and grace will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Visitations was on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte 30), Wayland.
