Our View: Detour Season

by The Cape Cod Chronicle

Last week, it took us nearly an hour to drive from Hyannis to Chatham. Traffic was unusually heavy for this time of year. Knowing that sewer work was happening on Queen Anne Road in Harwich, we skipped Exit 82 from Route 6 and headed to Exit 85. Surprise! The offramp was closed for what appeared to be tree work, so we had to drive all the way to Orleans and double back. But wait! Sewer work is happening in Orleans as well. So that required a detour. It was a frustrating trip.
And there’s more to come. The state will soon begin work on Route 28 from Dennisport to West Harwich, and this week we learned that there will be multiple detours as the state works on Route 6 bridges in Harwich over the next few months.
Maybe the fall should be rechristened Detour Season.
