Former Water Superintendent Honored

ORLEANS – Thirty-six years to the day since he started work in the town’s water department, Todd Bunzick was given his flowers by the select board Aug. 26.

Well, more specifically, a fish.

Bunzick was the recipient of the town’s Make Waves award in recognition of his decades of service to the water department, from which he retired as superintendent in June. The award featured a custom fish emblem courtesy of Frying Pan Gallery.

“Orleans has a lot of gratitude for your service and years of dedication,” select board Chair Mefford Runyon said in presenting the award.

Bunzick’s career in Orleans began as a meter reader in 1990, and he was quickly promoted to station operator, a post he held for 12 years. He was again promoted to water foreman in 2002 before becoming the town’s water and sewer superintendent in 2017. 

Town Manager Kim Newman said as superintendent, Bunzick was perpetually on call “24 hours a day, seven days a week,” always with his dog by his side. 

“Much of the work that Todd did was out of the spotlight, which means that he was doing a great job,” Runyon said.

Newman said another award will be kept on display in town hall in recognition of Bunzick’s service to the town.

“You’ll be honored on that wall forever. We’re so proud,” she said.
