Kicking Up Heals At 'United We Dance'

HARWICH – The sixth annual “United We Dance” event planned for Brooks Park last Friday had to do a little side step thanks to the rain. The event didn’t miss a beat when it moved to the Cultural Arts Municipal Building on Sisson Road.

 The rain did not dampen the spirit that filled the theater and adjacent rooms to accommodate the event put on by Dance Therapy 508 and Entertainment, which provides dance lessons in the cultural center. People of all ages came to shake a tail feather.

 It was a treat to hear the Fred Clayton Band perform live and watch newcomers and seasoned veterans do the R8B stretch and flow led by Alexandria Rose of Natural Vibes and the Latin Flava performed by Roselyn Alavarez Inoa of Zumba. 

 Mix in the Drumma Queens and master djembe drummer Issa Coulibaly and the West African rhythm took control of the spirit. That was demonstrated by Victoria Brown, founder of “United We Dance” and Dance Therapy 508 and Entertainment. 

The event ran from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and provided a mix of dance instructors demonstrating hip hop, locking, krump and breakdancing with participants crowding onto the stage to strut their stuff. It was a fun night for all.
