HARWICH – The most valuable player of Harwich’s postseason run to the 2026 Cape Cod Baseball League championship was none other than third baseman JP Peltier (Wright State/Kentucky).
Peltier earned the honors after hitting .346 with two home runs, six runs batted in and a 1.008 on-base plus slugging percentage, all while providing steady defense at third, across the Mariners’ seven playoff games
He hit a three-run homer in Harwich’s 6-5 Game 2 win in 10 innings to clinch the East Division semifinals against the Brewster Whitecaps on Aug. 5. Two days later, he hit another home run, this one a solo shot, to extend the Mariners’ lead against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in Game 1 of the East Division finals.
Peltier had three hits (one double) during the championship series. He appeared in 35 games (most of them at third, though a few at first and in the outfield) during the regular season and was a Cape League All-Star. He was playing on the Cape for the Mariners on opening day.
It was only fitting then that the final out of the season came to Peltier. With the tying runs on base in the ninth inning of Game 3 up 4-2, Harwich closer Luke Morgan (Oregon) induced a pop-up. Peltier dashed a few steps forward onto the infield grass and secured the ball with two hands.
The Mariners, and Peltier, were champions.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
