The Doors Are Open At Harwich Port Village Landing

HARWICH – People strolling through Harwich Port on Saturday were stopping to comment to owner Dennis Miller on the look of Harwich Port Village Landing, the new mixed-use building that is swinging its doors open at 575 Route 28. “It’s beautiful” was an often-heard quip.

The new building has four commercial units and five short-term rental apartments on the second floor. Three of the commercial units are rented as are the apartments above, Miller said on Saturday.

 “It’s a dream come true,” said Nicole Applebaum, owner of Style & Sea Boutique, located in the center of the building. The women' s clothing store has been doing very well in the first few weeks of opening, according to Applebaum.

 “I’m very happy,” she said.

Miller said that four years ago women's clothing wasn’t available in Harwich Port. That changed when Haberdash Cape Cod opened its doors at 566 Route 28, he said. Now there are three women’s clothing shops in the village, including Bank and Main, just to the east of the new building.

Charlie’s Ice Cream Sandwich, owned by Chad Murphy, has also opened its doors in the past couple of weeks. The shop is drawing a steady line of customers, offering a variety of freshly baked cookies and choices of Gifford’s ice cream. 

Three Harbors Coastal Kitchen, a 100-seat restaurant, will anchor the majority of the east side of the first floor of the building with seating on a patio adjacent to the sidewalk and to the east side of the building. A fire pit is located along the east end of the building. 

The restaurant, owned by Frank Wiacek, Jr. and his wife Lauren, will feature seafood while providing many additional culinary options. The Wiaceks also own Milano’s Italian Kitchen in West Harwich. Three Harbors Coastal Kitchen is expected to open its doors in the next week. The restaurant has been granted a seasonal liquor license. 

Frank Wiacek Sr. said the menu is “eclectic” and will be centered around local products. The pasta will be homemade. Lobster hushpuppies will be on the menu.

The business owners that have rented the commercial units are all Harwich residents, according to Miller. A 1,000-square-foot unit on the west side of the building is not yet rented, he said. 

There are 53 parking spaces surrounding the building, which is tied into additional units at 571 Route 28, where Cape Cod Associates real estate and a barber shop are located. Details Inc., a home decor and interior design company, is located at 573 Route 28. Both properties are owned by Miller. Parking is also provided for the complex on 569 Route 28.

Miller said he is happy to get the project across the finish line. He praised town departments for being cooperative and supportive of the development.

Miller said the apartments on the second floor have been rented over the past couple of weeks. New England Vacation Rentals is handling the rentals, he said, and are already getting bookings for Thanksgiving weekend.

Miller is a major property owner in the village. He said he owns 10 properties along the village’s 400 yards, stretching west from Bank Stre
