July 26, 1932 – June 16, 2026
Virginia A. Moody, 93, of South Orleans and Melbourne, Florida, died peacefully at home on June 16, surrounded and supported by family and friends who loved her. Ginny leaves her loving children, Douglas and his wife Francine A’ness of Thetford, VT; Paula and her husband, Harry Armfield, of London, England, Michael and his wife Taraneh Azar of Rye, NH; and Janet Halton of Edinburgh, Scotland. “Oma” also leaves her beloved grandchildren – Liam, Thea, Daria, Aidan, Dylan, Mitra, Finlay, Fraser and Rowan. Ginny was pre-deceased by her husband of 53 years, Don, with whom she made their home, wherever it was, a warm and welcoming place. Ginny was the daughter of Virgil and Ila (Belue) Shewbart and was big sister to her brother, Bud. Born in the backroom of a Mississippi telephone office, Ginny was raised in Michigan City, Indiana. She graduated from Ball State University and received ber Masters Degree from St. Michael’s College. “Mrs. Moody” taught elementary and middle school in Indiana, California and Massachusetts.
Ginny had an amazing ability to bring people together and had friends of all ages, from all corners of the world. She was smart, adventurous and kind. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends across the country and around the world. Her adventures continued even after Don’s passing when she, Paula and Janet began a tradition of an annual trip to a different European capital. She could read a book, write 10 letters, knit a pair of socks, win a game of bridge and make a batch of oatmeal cookies all in one day. Following her passing, an envelope was found labeled “Bridge Winnings” - containing several hundred dollars of cash. While she was always humble, we are sure she took at least a little pride in being a quiet card shark.
The family would like to thank Ginny’s many friends and neighbors for their love and support – as well as the care and assistance provided by Broad Reach Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orleans Conservation Trust or a charity of your choice. To honor the best correspondent ever, please consider sending a letter or card - by regular mail - to someone you care about. Internment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne on July 24 and a celebration of Ginny’s life will follow.
