HARWICH – There were 32 vendors on hand for last Thursday’s Harwich Farmers Market at the Cultural Arts Municipal Building with offerings that included farm fresh produce, locally harvested scallop sea clams and oysters, baked goods, wines, wearables, floral designers, herbalists, pottery and jewelry crafters and more.
The market will be open Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 27.
Several town departments were on hand to disseminate information, including the health department, conservation administration and the youth and family services department.
“It’s a great opportunity for town departments to provide summertime information on ticks and programs being offered,” Health Department Director Carrie Schoener said. She was promoting a water conservancy program through the use of rain storage barrels.
One of the new vendors this year is My Cousins’ Wine, operated by Harwich resident Anthony Dimauro, who has state and local approval to sell his sulfite- and chemical-free products.
“It’s Sicily meets Cape Cod,” he said of the old-world Sicilian winemaking style that goes back 120 years and five generations in his family. It is a handcrafted, small-batch product with limited distribution, Dimauro said.
My Cousins’ Wine may fit right in with the Midnight Our shellfish products being sold nearby. Jesse Rose is the captain of Midnight Our and two additional fishing vessels, the Stella Jane and Nemesis. He harvests sea scallops and sea clams, which are landed in Harwich and sold at the farmers market.
The market also includes entertainment. Last Thursday, Jo Miller and Joel Sklar of The Lariats entertained shoppers.
