HARWICH PORT– The Harwich Port Library will start its summer author series, “Books on Bank Street,” on June 1 with a presentation on the American Revolution by Robert Allison. In June the program includes two local authors talking about their work.
Allison is a professor of history at Suffolk University and also teaches in the Harvard Extension School. His main interest in writing is about American history, according to Kim Keith, the new director of the library. In addition to being president of the Colonial Society of Massachusetts, Allison chairs Revolution 25, a consortium of organizations planning commemorations of the Revolution's 250th anniversary. He is a life trustee of the USS Constitution Museum and involved with other history organizations.
On June 8, Gregory Hischack will discuss “E Is for Edward,” which celebrates Edward Gorey's life as author, illustrator, humorist, playwright, printmaker, fabric artist and theatrical designer. The book explores the vast array of material Gorey created between 1953 and his death in 2000, including both iconic as well as never-before-seen works, Keith said.
“E is for Edward”is organized by major themes and topics that characterized Gorey’s self-authored output. Hischack has worked at the Edward Gorey house since 2013 and has been its director and curator since 2020.
There is no event planned for Monday, June 15.
On June 22, the library will present authors Jimin Han, whose new book “Dreamt I Found You” has just been released, along with Jennifer Manocherian, who will be talking about her book “And No One Knew.” They will be joined by Patricia Dunn who will facilitate the discussion.
On June 29 local author Keith Yocum will be speaking about his Cape Cod Mystery series, which follows a former reporter as he investigates cases along the Massachusetts coast. Yocum is a former journalist and business executive who has worked for publications including the Boston Globe and The New England Journal of Medicine, said Keith.
The Monday events will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the library on Bank Street.
