Chatham Firefighters Rescue Ducklings Stuck In Storm Drain

CHATHAM – Hunter MacDonald was driving down Heritage Lane on Friday when he saw a duck circling a roadside storm drain, looking distraught even. He had a feeling.
MacDonald, who works for the town’s IT department, pulled over and called for emergency services. A few minutes later, Chatham first responders rescued a brood of ducklings that had become stuck in the drain, separated from their mother.
Capt. RJ Silvester descended the drain while firefighter Thomas Devlin held the ladder and the container that brought the baby ducks out of the pit. With the brood in hand, the two firefighters searched a bog behind adjacent houses for the mother, eventually finding her and two other ducklings.
 The family, reunited, swam off.
