Henry Lawrence Peterson

April 01, 2026

Henry Lawrence (Pete) Peterson, age 91, of Harwich Port, Massachusetts passed away on March 20, 2026, in the comfort of his home.
Pete was born in East Hartford, Connecticut to Henry and Ivy Peterson on December 13, 1934. He attended East Hartford High School graduating in June of 1952. He worked in manufacturing until his 21st birthday -- the day he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
After Pete returned from the Marine Corps he went on to a career in Manufacturing/Distribution in the Dairy Industry. Upon retiring in 1980 he purchased the Gustin Home in Harwich Port, MA. Naming it the Wedgewood House, Pete created an Elder Care Home transitioning to a Bed and Breakfast a decade later. After five years as a Bed and Breakfast proprietor he was once again ready to retire.
Retirement did not mean relaxing to Pete as he was always working on projects having to do with building, landscaping and enjoying the outdoors. He focused on land, water and wildlife protection/conservation--a longtime supporter of Harwich Conservation Trust.
Pete could be seen many afternoons at Red River Beach, Lifeguard Station #3 with his friend Charlie (a black winged seagull) who would follow the car and wait until Pete got out to chat. Sometimes hopping on the car hood and plucking at the windshield wipers if Pete took too long.
Pete is survived by his wife Donna of 34 years, his brother Ralph, grandchildren Makenna and Griffin, and his much-loved California relatives. He was predeceased by his parents Ivy and Henry Peterson Sr. and children Christine, Scot and Laura (Lori).
A private graveside service was held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Harwich.
Memorial donations may be made to Harwich Conservation Trust or charity of your choosing.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for providing Pete comfort, medical care, guidance and caring support to: Ease Care at Home; Continuum Hospice & Palliative Care; Back Nine Nurses
