Janet Lossone DeWilde
March 18, 2026
Janet Lossone DeWilde of Chatham and Truro passed away peacefully at Liberty Commons in Chatham on February 18th.
Janet was born on September 25, 1927, to Olive and William Lossone in Easthampton, MA. She later moved to Melrose, graduated from high school, and then attended Framingham State College, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition.
Janet’s real passion was cooking and baking for her family and guests. She also was very prolific with sewing and knitting gifts for her children, grandchildren, and anyone who she thought might enjoy a pair of wool socks in their favorite color. This passion led her to her dream job as the Home Economic teacher at Nauset Middle School, where she taught for over twenty years. She loved teaching and she loved how her students took great pride when they finished a project.
Oftentimes, well after she retired, she would run into a former student who would tell her how much they loved her class, how they remembered making a perfect Baked Alaska, or that they saved the pattern for shorts which was used for their own children. This always brought great delight to her.
Janet leaves Kristen Thorup of Plymouth, Gary and Pat Thorup of South Orleans, and Greg and Gail Thorup of Cumberland, ME, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Special thank you to Liberty Commons. We are so grateful for the caring, kindness, and love from the people of Liberty Commons who took such good care of our Mom.
