Comedy Night Benefits Monomoy High Sports Booster Club
Monomoy High School’s All Sports Booster Club is hosting its third annual Comedy Fundraiser featuring a night of stand-up comedy, a 50-50 drawing, and an assortment of raffles, along with a cash bar at the 21-plus event.
The fundraiser will take place on March 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pelham House Resort. All Sports Booster Club representative Erika Mawn noted that this type of event is unique to Cape Cod schools.
“It's something different. When you think about a lot of fundraising, golf outings for sure, a lot of people put on galas and stuff like that,” said Mawn. “This was something a little bit different that we hadn't seen here on the Cape before.”

The booster club contracted Funny 4 Funds to assist in organizing the event. According to Mawn, the company provides three comedians for the night, and they find out who they are on the night of the event. They also contribute to the marketing for the event. They create a website that allows people to buy a ticket, assist in sponsorships, or provide an extra donation. They assist with flyers and other avenues of promotion. The booster club then has the ability to focus on acquiring additional sponsorships and donations, along with assembling raffle and silent auction items.
Proceeds from the event go to a general fund that is used to assist the school’s athletic department. As Mawn explains, each team at Monomoy High School has their own fundraisers. The purpose of the booster club’s fund is to help with items that might be a touch past each team’s capabilities or unplanned situations that arise in a season, like providing transportation for state games or snack bags for long travel. Some examples of past assistance have been helping the soccer teams acquire a new camera and buying wet suits for the sailing team.
Mawn said the booster club collaborated with Monomoy High School Baseball Coach John McCarthy, who works as the general manager for the Pelham House Resort to secure the spacing for the event. The school buys a package of food allowing ticketholders appetizers and hors d’oeuvres at no additional charge.
“It's really more for parents and guardians to get a night out and to have a little fun and have it at a nice place,” said Mawn. “It's really about having a night out and getting the word out there, seeing what the boosters can do to support our student athletes.”
There’s a variety of interesting silent auction items according to Mawn. There’s a jersey signed by Boston Celtics Point Guard Payton Pritchard, a variety of gift cards to restaurants, and an assortment of items from various local businesses. In total, the booster club acquired 20 to 25 items.
Mawn said the evening is a “night of laughs.”
“They give us three comedians. And the first one's good, and then the next one's better, and then the last one, you're like, you're crying,” said Mawn. It's so much fun, and it's different. It’s really a nice break in between seasons.”
