Cape Dreams Serves Up Free Lunch For Emergency Crews After Historic Blizzard

BREWSTER – If there’s one thing unprecedented storms teach us, it’s that when disaster strikes, Cape Cod communities rise up.
In the wake of the historic blizzard last week, the team at Cape Dreams Building and Design pulled together a free “drive-through” lunch last Friday for emergency crews who had been tirelessly working to restore power across the Lower Cape and surrounding region.
“Local businesses across the Cape Cod community have generously donated food and resources so we could provide a free lunch to the emergency responders who worked tirelessly to restore power and services and help get Cape Cod back on the grid,” said Allen Furman, vice president of Cape Dreams Building and Design. “We are especially grateful for the extraordinary efforts of the arborists, linesmen, Eversource crews, local police departments, emergency response teams, and hospital staff. Their dedication, long hours, and commitment to our community have been nothing short of superb, and this lunch was a small way for us to say thank you.”
With just about one day’s notice to prepare, Cape Dreams’ provided a total of 220 meals and raised $3,878 in donations.
The event, which kicked off Friday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at 44 Underpass Rd., was open to all emergency crews working in the area. The Cape Dreams team served lunches until the food ran out. In a release, Furman said any remaining monetary donations would be donated to local food pantries in the area.
“Free lunch Friday is about more than just providing meals to the workers who got Cape Cod back on the grid; it’s about bringing people together and ensuring that everyone in our community has access to food and support when they need it,” said Furman. “We are incredibly grateful for the volunteers, donors, and attendees who made this event such a success.”
In an email Monday, Furman said monetary donations continue to grow.
Food, supplies and time were donated by Bernadette Macleod, Cape Dreams, Chapmans, Hot Chocolate Sparrow, the Fairway, Hole in One, Kaylin Lemieux, Lost Dog Pub, Meg Dellman, Peacemaker, Shepley Lumber, Snowy Owl, The Alley and Yale Appliance.
