Our View: ‘Sno Joke
The lights are literally flickering as we write this, at the onset of what was expected to become the signature winter storm of 2026.
We don’t know exactly how bad the storm will be, how many people will be without power and for how long, or – for that matter – when this edition of The Chronicle will print. Those are the perils of a New England winter.
What we do know is this: There are a lot of people putting themselves in harm’s way to try and reduce the human impact of the blizzard. Police officers and firefighters are scouting out downed wires, rescuing motorists from ditched vehicles and taking numerous emergency calls. Eversource crews are standing by to begin repairing power lines as soon as it’s safe to do so. Volunteers with a host of groups, including the Lower Cape Community Emergency Response Team, are staffing a regional shelter and a warming center.
Even at this early hour, we know one more thing: we’ve had enough of the white stuff this season. At least let’s all pray that the snow from this storm has a chance to melt before, well....
Let’s just leave it at that.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
