Minding Your Business- Cape Cod Mom Prom
“When the world changed and we lost Shannon and Maggie, I wanted to honor her and be able to give back,” said Kathryn Giangregorio, founder of Cape Cod Mom Prom. “Shannon and I were actually on the beach with the kids the summer before she passed away, and I had mentioned to her that one of my good friends goes to a ‘mom prom’ in New Hampshire and how cool I thought that idea was. She was, like, we should do that! Shannon was definitely the organizer of our friend group; she made sure we got together. She made sure that we had girls' nights because those were so important.”
The Cape Cod Mom Prom is a nonprofit fundraising event organized to support the Shannon and Maggie June Hubbard Preschool Charitable Fund, also known as All Moms Are Heroes. All Moms Are Heroes was founded in honor of Shannon Hubbard and her daughter, Maggie. Shannon was a devoted mother, passionate teacher, and fierce advocate for early childhood education. The event is targeted at women: moms, grandmas and aunts. Their mission is to provide monetary support to the foundation, the goal of which is to provide local families financial assistance towards daycare tuition, early intervention learning expenses and advocacy for families and children when services are denied. They are dedicated to creating a memorable evening for all attendees while making a meaningful impact on the lives of young children.
The Cape Cod Mom Prom is happening this weekend, Feb. 21 from 7 to 11 p.m., with a theme of “Under the Sea.” The event will be held at the Cape Cod Irish Village in Barnstable (tickets are on sale at givebutter.com/3RnndR).
“The Cape Cod Irish Village actually donates their space for the event, which is amazing,” Giangregorio said. “They were so moved and it was such a success last year that they were, like, let’s do it again! I feel very honored and grateful that they wanted to have us again.”
In fact, there are many, many other local organizations and businesses moved and inspired by the mission and vision of Cape Cod Mom Prom. Last year the event raised more than $22,000. This year the event will feature a general raffle and a luxury raffle with items donated that are valued at $400 or more, with prizes like fishing charters and photography packages.
“It’s really cool to see donors and raffle sponsors coming back and continuing their support,” Giangregorio said. “Bellew Tile and Marble, Cape Cod Five, Stonewood Products and Pine Harbor Wood Products are our major financial sponsors this year, which is amazing.”
In addition to ticket sales and raffles, guests can also opt to buy a reserved table for their party.
Several vendors donate their time and services as well to make the fundraising event unforgettable. Lily’s Florist and Gifts donates the flowers, Elevated Impressions creates the lighting and balloon decor, JT Chronicle donates his time as the event DJ, RC’s Pizza provides the snack and appetizers, Pizza Shark provides gluten-free pizza, Made with T Love will supply mini cupcakes, and Smitty’s Icecream supplies the ice cream bar. With more than 350 attendees expected this year from the Cape, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and beyond, this special night of fun and celebration is one not to be missed!
“I think a lot of moms don’t always get to have that night out,” Giangregorio said. “I mean, who doesn't want to have a night out with the girls that is carefree and fun? We always crown a prom queen and princess, too. It is going to be a pretty amazing night!”
