Lower Cape Winter Athletes Compete In End-of-season Events

Lower Cape athletes have traveled all over the state in recent weeks to face off against the best of the best in end-of-season competitions for winter sports.
At Division 2 states on Saturday, Nauset junior Edie Spiegel placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke, and senior Laura Kaser placed 11th in the 200-yard freestyle and 12th in the 100-yard butterfly. Nauset sophomore Thomas Olean placed 13th in the 100-yard freestyle and 15th in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Monomoy boys indoor track team finished fourth (out of 36 teams) at the Division 5 championship. Senior Jonathan Sagesse placed fourth and junior Alique Brown placed sixth in the 55-meter. Junior Quinn Muldoon finished fourth in the 1,000 meter. The 4x200 team (sophomore Jakob Conlon, Sagesse, senior Sean Needham, Brown) finished second. The 4x400 team (Sagesse, sophomore Jackson Craig, Muldoon, Brown) finished sixth. The 4x800 team (senior Chatham Gillis, senior Samuel Kelley, senior Jude Hutchings-McMahon, Muldoon) finished sixth. Needham placed 10th in the long jump.
The Monomoy girls indoor track team finished 10th (out of 39 teams) at the championship. Eighth grader Lucy Cortese placed sixth in the 600-meter. Senior Ella Baum placed 20th in the 1-mile run. Freshman Skyler Orsmond placed 21st in the 2-mile run. The 4x200 team (senior Alexa Ford, senior Zay-Dah Thomas, Cortese, junior Varvara Conley) finished third. The 4x400 team (Cortese, Conley, eighth grader Blessing Parrent, Ford) placed second.
The Nauset boys indoor track team finished 35th as a team at the Division 4 championship. Sophomore Billy Naughton placed 24th in the 600-meter. Freshman Blaise Donoho placed 25th in the 2-mile run. The 4x800 team (junior Sam Bowden, sophomore Maxwell Kerry, junior Gabriel Walsh, freshman Connor Flanders) placed 17th. Senior Reed Dill finished sixth in the high jump. Senior Xavier Andrulot finished 15th in the long jump.
For the Nauset girls indoor track team, freshman Savanna Senatori finished 15th in the 2-mile run. Senior Elizabeth Sanders placed 10th in the high jump. Sophomore Maeve Roche finished 26th in the 600-meter.
The Nauset-Cape Cod Tech wrestling team finished sixth as a team at the Division 3 South sectionals. Senior Owen O’Reilly won the 144-pound bracket, and sophomore Jack Peno won the 157-pound bracket. Sophomore Evan McCarty (120 pounds), junior Chaz Thomas (190), senior Freddie Ricks (215) and senior Duante Gray (285) each placed third.
The Monomoy cheerleading team finished first in Division 4 at an event last weekend, advancing to the Division 4 South Regional competition.
