Bon Matin is a must-see destination shop on Main Street in Chatham with some of the most incredible curated selections of luxurious linens and gifts that you’ll find anywhere on the Lower Cape. Bon Matin owner Maureen Finnerty, now in her fourth season, always knew that once she sold her previous business she dreamed of opening up a store on the Cape.
“There’s a lot of things I always wanted to do, and I always wanted to have my own store,” said Finnerty. “I was very fortunate that we sold my business and I was able to retire at 50. I thought Chatham would be a great place and the space became available!”
Walking through the front doors, you are immediately captivated by the shop’s brightness and elegance. The collection includes many women-owned brands and items from around the world that you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in the area. Brands on display include selections from Molten Brown, Petit Plume, Katie Kime, Yves Delorme and Nest. Shoppers can discover timeless classic items from table linens to pajamas, candles and luxurious bedding. Every item in the store is offered to “elevate the simple pleasures of daily life.”
“Whatever money the business makes in profits we put right back into local charities,” Finnerty said. “We’ve given to so many amazing local organizations like Shakespeare in the Park, the Grateful Mug in Harwich, NAMI National (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the Animal Rescue League in Brewster.”
Kim Roderiques, long-time Chatham resident and photographer, is someone Finnerty considers a dear friend and works closely with on fundraising. Some upcoming events the friends are looking forward to supporting soon include the “Ireland in America: An Evening of Song and Dance” to support the Family Pantry and the Kanaley School of Irish Dance at the Chatham Drama Guild this Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., and “John Williams Maestro of the Movies” at the Chatham Orpheum on Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. to support the Chatham Children’s Fund.
Guests are always greeted with a warm smile from Bon Matin’s cheerful staff, which is a tight-knit team including Robert Intile, Diane Carreiro and Patricia Joyce.
“It’s very important that we are a fun, no pressure place to shop,” Finnerty said. “We have some super talented people working here, too. A lot of the success of this business has been due to the talents of the individuals that work here.”
And the feeling is definitely mutual, according to Finnerty’s staff.
“She is just one of the most incredible people I have ever met in my life,” Bon Matin employee Robert Intile said about Finnerty. “No one compares to her generosity and her kindness. It is an honor to know her.”
Guests can book personal shopping appointments or browse the selection themselves. The store is open this winter most days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (call or check the website for exact times). Bon Matin also ships orders nationwide. Whether it’s a special hostess gift, a timeless wedding present or simply a treat for yourself, you will not be disappointed by all Bon Matin has to offer.
