Lana Proffitt Morrice
November 26, 2025
Lana Proffitt Morrice, 57, of Chatham, Massachusetts, and Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on November 15, 2025.
Born in Glasgow, KY, on April 17, 1968, Lana spent her childhood in Madisonville and Glasgow before attending the University of Kentucky, where she graduated in 1990 with a degree in advertising. While at UK, she began working at Kennedy Book Store—first as a student employee and eventually as a soft-goods buyer, a role she held for 20 years. Kennedy’s played an even bigger part in her life when the bookstore owner set her up on a blind date with a young man named David. That date would lead to a marriage full of laughter, adventure, and three beautiful children.
Lana’s greatest accomplishment—and the center of her entire world—was her triplets, Jason, Katie, and Benjamin. Navigating three newborns, three toddlers, and eventually three teenagers all at once was a heroic feat, embracing the chaos, pouring every ounce of her love, energy, and determination into raising them. She was their constant encourager, their biggest supporter, through every class, sport, and milestone. They were her deepest joy and the reason she smiled so brightly.
After taking time to be home with her children, Lana began a ten-year teaching career at Cassidy Elementary in Lexington. She adored working with children and brought her humor, patience, craftiness, and kindness into every classroom. The teachers, children, and parents all loved her.
Through David, Lana fell in love with Cape Cod. They were engaged on top of Stage Harbor Lighthouse in 1994 and returned every summer for one precious week. Over time, that single week grew into the entire summer season, and in 2022 they finally made Chatham their full-time home. Lana enjoyed walking the beaches, driving her yellow Jeep around town, taking a sun-warmed outdoor shower, listening to music, strumming her ukulele, and collecting rocks and driftwood that she later arranged in her gardens. She also enjoyed giving thoughtful gifts that demonstrated her love for the people she cared about.
Lana had a gift for bringing people together. She loved cooking and entertaining. Whether it was a bunco night, a fun dinner party, or the annual legendary Fourth of July celebration—kicking off at the Chatham parade, then to her house for pool time, BBQ, games, and fireworks. Lana filled each gathering with enthusiasm, laughter, and usually a squirt gun or water balloons. She loved having fun. She also loved sharing Chatham with visiting family and friends—eagerly showing them her favorite spots and the town’s charm.
Lana is predeceased by her mother, Linda Proffitt. She is survived by her husband, David Morrice; her children, Jason Morrice (WA), Katie Morrice (OH), and Benjamin Morrice (OH); her father, Fred Proffitt; her sister, Lorie Proffitt; her brother, Steven Proffitt; and a beloved circle of friends she considered family.
A private ceremony in Lexington, KY will take place later this year. Donations may be made to The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, where Lana shared her time, compassion, and heart the last few years.
