Susanne Helen Hermes, 89 years of age, passed away on November 7th, 2025, at her home in Brewster, Massachusetts surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born on August 1st, 1936, in Nova Scotia, Canada and grew up in Newton, Massachusetts where she attended the Episcopal Church. She was the beloved daughter of Willoughby Scott Brent and Helen Mary (Hewat) Brent and sister to Willoughby Scott Brent Junior. Susanne worked for many years as a secretary for the Mitre Corporation which relocated her to Paris, France.
Susanne is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Emmanuel Hermes. As well as their daughter Christine, her partner Tobin and son Joseph, his wife Kathy, and three grandchildren Courtney, Brian and Sean. “Sue” or “Grandma Sue” as she was affectionately known, was a ray of sunshine in the lives of all those who knew her. She lived life to the fullest and showed warmth and generosity to all those who had the privilege of meeting her. Sue had an adventurous and fun-loving spirit and loved to host and entertain her family and friends, as well as travel and discover beautiful new places and people across the globe.
Sue enjoyed vacationing each year in Aruba with her husband Emmanuel. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, shopping at rummage sales for any small item that brought joy to her life and a smile to her face. She was a member of the Discovery Club and the Red Hat Society. She was a lover of all animals, big or small, and had many beloved pets throughout her life. Sue adored her home in Cape Cod, and the beautiful bay, especially during the many summers filled with family and friends coming together. Sue was an exceptional person, with many stories of a wonderful life well lived and was the life of any party, the light in any room and a thoughtful and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her memory lives on through her family and friends who adored her gentleness, her clever humor and the immense kindness of her heart.
