November 18, 1947 – October 27, 2025
Barry Alper, 77, of Orleans, MA passed away peacefully in his home on October 27, after a long illness. He and his wife Carol have been Cape Cod residents since 1996 and loved the Cape with all its natural beauty. They built a garden that was their private oasis. Even as his health declined, Barry took joy in watching the garden colors change this fall.
He was born on November 18, 1947 in Yonkers, NY. He met his wife, Carol, in college, and they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. They lived in Buffalo, NY where they received their MBAs from The State University of New York at Buffalo, before moving to Sharon, Massachusetts in 1984.
Barry’s career was in technology, specializing in manufacturing and innovation. He had a keen eye for emerging trends and a passion for being part of the future rather than the past. Throughout his career, he worked for several companies pioneering new directions in the field, always following his instincts and often proving ahead of his time.
Barry was a man of integrity, strong principles, and an inquisitive mind. He cared about moving the world forward and believed that actions speak louder than words. He was a member of the Orleans Housing Authority, and he worked to bring affordable housing to his community.  He also worked with Nauset Neighbors to provide people the dignity of remaining active and vibrant in their communities. Barry was a member of the Orleans Yacht Club, serving as co-chair of the racing committee. He was successful in getting more people into racing on Sundays and helping grow the committee. He was also a great lover of food and wine and belonged to several international groups that promoted good food and wine. He was an accomplished cook and an excellent bread baker. He and his wife were supporters of good living by sharing many wonderful meals and engaging in conversations with their friends.
Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Carol.  He is preceded in death by their son, Bennett Alper, who died in 1999. He is survived by his sister, Rochelle Slater of Boynton Beach, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Barry’s life will be held on the Cape in the spring of 2026 with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Barry Alper to support the cancer research of Dr. Matthew Smith at Massachusetts General Hospital, 125 Nashua St. Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114, or the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, 2095 Main St. Brewster, MA 02631.
