Mary Dalton Berzinis

October 01, 2025

Mary Dalton Berzinis, age 70, of Brewster, MA passed away on September 25th, 2025 in Sandwich, MA, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born January 19th, 1955 to Roberta K.(Multer) Dalton and Robert W. Dalton in Denver, CO, Mary attended The University of Colorado at Boulder, during which time she met her future husband, Stephen M. Berzinis Jr. Mary and Steve went on to marry shortly after Mary’s college graduation in 1977, followed by several years of adventures traveling the world and building their careers before settling on Brewster, MA as a home for their future family.
Mary was known for her caring and compassionate nature and her dedication to helping others, which she embodied through her career as a speech pathologist and 25-year long tenure at Stony Brook Elementary School. She could almost always be found with a smile on her face or to be cracking jokes, even in the most trying of times during her cancer treatment. Her joyful attitude made it easy to make friends, which she continued to do throughout her years, and held many colleagues, golf mates, and yoga peers close to her heart.
Although she was born in Colorado, Mary had always dreamed of living on Cape Cod and enjoyed spending her free time taking advantage of the Cape’s beauty with her family and friends. She was a years-long member of The Captains Golf Course and enjoyed staying active in its Women’s’ League, through which she made several good friends. She also loved exploring the many hiking trails throughout Brewster with her dog Rosie, as well as frequenting the Brewster beaches and the National Seashore. If she wasn’t taking advantage of the Cape’s landscape, Mary could be found indoors dedicated to her yoga practice, another hobby through which she developed several very close and meaningful friendships. She also enjoyed baking, and would never have a shortage of cookies on hand for visitors at Christmas, or shy away from trying a new cake recipe throughout the year. She shared many of her hobbies with her husband and daughters, bringing her all the more joy.
Mary will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and daughter; a loyal and caring friend; and as a gleaming source of optimism.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Stephen M. Berzinis Jr., her daughters Kyra and Natalie, her mother Kay Dalton, her sister Julia Danielson (Dan), brothers Robert Dalton (Mila), John Dalton (Alice), and Michael Dalton (Christine), her brother-in-law, Barry Berzinis (Mary), nieces Melissa Dalton (Troy) and Hanna Danielson (Brian), and nephews Eric Dalton and Peter Danielson (Valerie).
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is deeply grateful to the many doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals who cared for Mary while battling her disease.
