Nauset Golfer Places Ninth At Cape Cod National Golf Club High School Invitational
BREWSTER – Max St. Aubin first picked up a golf club during his freshman year of high school. Less than four years later, the Nauset senior is leading a 9-0 Warriors team that hasn’t lost a golf match since 2023.
And on a day off from the Nauset team last Sunday, St. Aubin tied for ninth among a field of 38 at the ninth annual Cape Cod National Golf Club High School Invitational.
As a Brewster resident, St. Aubin certainly had the shortest drive to the competition, which assembled some of the best Massachusetts high school golfers for an 18-hole tournament in both team and individual formats.
It’s conceivable too that St. Aubin first started playing golf more recently than anyone else gathered at the invitational held in his hometown.
“It’s amazing,” St. Aubin said after the round. “I mean, to pick up a club for the first time four years ago and to be a pretty solid golfer on the Cape and have a really good high school team, I think it's just awesome. I'm so glad for everything that's really happened.”
Playing as an individual, St. Aubin shot a 3-over 75, finishing within the top 10 of the field, only two back of the leaders (four players tied at 1-over 73 before the winner, Foxborough’s Zac Georgantas, was determined in two playoff holes).
Paired with Jacob Hillman of Mount Greylock, St. Aubin’s round began at the seventh hole and opened steady and strong. Among the first six holes, he birdied the ninth and 12th and parred the rest to get to two-under. On the par-3 ninth, St. Aubin’s first shot drifted right off the fairway, then he stuck the approach to only a few feet from the pin and one-putted for birdie.
That hot start hit a snag as St. Aubin bogeyed five of the next six holes before birdieing the first. He rattled off a run of pars with one bogey mixed in to wrap up the round, starting on the par-4 second by punching out from a left fairway bunker with an 8-iron to get up and down from 120 yards — pumping his fist as the putt dropped in.
“Good round,” St. Aubin said by the clubhouse at Cape Cod National on Sunday. “Started off really hot and had a couple of three-putts in the middle there but thought I finished strong. Really glad about how I played. Tough course. Greens were tough today, so yeah, really happy about what I did today.”
With Cape Cod National Golf Club just a 10 minute drive away St. Aubin (Mount Greylock, for scale, is about four hours away), he had played the course a good amount prior and knew it pretty well. He has friends who caddie there. St. Aubin just had to play his game.
“I think some of that knowledge helped today on the greens and everything like that, so yeah, I'd say I kind of knew if I hit the ball pretty well, I was going to play pretty good,” he said.

A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
