John (Nickey) McCarter Nickerson

John (Nickey) McCarter Nickerson died on August 14th after a long illness. He was a 12th generation Nickerson and a Mayflower descendent. John attended Chatham schools and Williston Academy in Northampton, Massachusetts. After a year at Bard College, he was drafted and served in the Army, stationed in Vietnam. Upon his return, he attended Northeastern University where he received a degree in Electronic Engineering. He worked at MicroSwitch, a division of Honeywell. Later he returned to Chatham and pursued photography, and gardening. He also started his own business “Old Harbor Company” where his custom amplifiers and electrical expertise were greatly appreciated by the local, as well as internationally acclaimed musicians. He was a student of the Spiritual “Eckancar” Religion.
He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Elizabeth Nickerson of Vermont, and his sisters: Rachel Nickerson Luna, (Armando) of New York City, Virginia T. (Ginny) Nickerson (Richard Johnston) and Suzanna H. Nickerson, (Thomas Sharkey) all of Chatham, Calling hours are Wednesday, August 27th from 4-7 at Nickerson Funeral Home in Chatham and the funeral will be on Thursday, August 28th at 11:00 at the First United Methodist Church, Chatham.
