Athlete Of The Week: Pierrce Miller

Pierrce Miller’s hat trick proved to be the difference last Sunday night in Scorcha FC’s 5-3 win over Mid-Cape United in Harwich.
Each of the three goals found the back of the soccer net differently. Miller’s first came after he broke past the Mid-Cape defense and launched a distant strike from the right side of the pitch in the match’s first minutes. His second was a free kick, again from the right side, a pretty ball Miller shaped over and around goalkeeper Freddie Rosen. Miller’s third was a penalty shot he buried to tie the game after Mid-Cape had come back to take a second half lead.
Confidence fueled the trio of scores, according to Miller, a South Yarmouth resident. He said he “capitalized on the hard chances,” that there were other simpler opportunities to score he failed to convert.
“Believing in your abilities and just trying to execute,” he said. “Every time we try to execute.”
Miller is naturally left-footed and said he can play anywhere up top, on either side of the wings.
“We’re just playing fast on the counter, which is our game,” Scorcha player-coach Odane Scale said. “Pierrce is a good player. Fast and he’s pretty good on his left foot. He kind of just took those in the attack and just slot them on, gave us the win.”
Miller said Scorcha’s intention was to attack Mid-Cape hard in the first 10 minutes. That plan turned out to be crucial with his two early goals and the two-score difference in the win.
“We’re a good team,” he said. “We just have to go out there and execute. Be more focused from the first minute like we were today. This is an example. We just have to keep going to the next one.”
