A. Wayne Griffin

June 13, 2025

April 25, 1924 - May 27, 2025
Wayne Griffin, 101, passed away on the anniversary of his mother’s death.  Wayne was born in Brockton where his parents lived at the time, but grew up in Chatham. He attended school in Chatham through the 8th grade, and graduated from Tabor Academy in Marion.  Soon after graduation, Wayne joined the U.S. Army, and was stationed overseas in China, Burma and India during World War II; he was a Sergeant 1st class in the Signal Corp. He liked to say he went “around the world,”  via Florida to China then from there to Seattle, to Cape Cod.
After his trip around the world and his time in the Army, he worked at the Chatham Trust Company when it was in the Brick Block Building downtown Chatham. When an Army buddy called and asked him to move to Vermont, he decided to leave Chatham.  He ended up spending 64 years in St. Johnsbury,  working for two radio stations, and directing the choir at the Catholic church there.  He sang beautifully, said his sister Virginia “Ginny” Forgeron.
He returned to Chatham in 2018 and had several “happy years” with his sister Ginny. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, and sang with Ginny in the choir.
Wayne is predeceased by his parents, Alexander Griffin and Elizabeth (Blankinship) Griffin; his brothers Robert Griffin, Richard Griffin and James Griffin.  He is survived by his sisters Virginia Forgeron and Joyce Gallup, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Ave. Chatham on Sat. June 14 at 10 a.m.
He will be dearly missed by Ginny.
