CHATHAM – In a benefit for Cape Abilities and The Grateful Mug Cafe, the award-winning documentary "Autism Goes To College" will screen at the Chatham Orpheum Theater next Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m.
The screening will be followed by keynote speaker Lisa Genova, a Chatham resident and best-sellling author whose novel “Love Anthony” focuses on a mother’s relationship with her autistic son.
There will also be a panel discussion led by Sammi Robertson, president of Bailey’s Team For Autism, featuring “Autism Goes To College” filmmaker Erik Linthorst; Jan Blacher Baker, a producer who also appears in the film; Grateful Mug founder and Monomoy teacher Shana Grogan; Chatham gallery owner Nick Heaney; Mary Miller, author of “So Far So Great! Lessons Learned From An Autistic Son's Journey From Infancy To Middle Age”; and Pari Kim, star of the Netflix show “Love On The Spectrum.” The discussion will offer authentic perspectives on neurodiversity and higher education.
The fundraiser is a celebration of inclusion, community and the future,” according to organizer Kim Roderiques. “Be part of the conversation,” she said. “Be part of the movement.”
