The Creative Arts Center in Chatham will hold the opening reception for its 29th annual Juried All Cape Art Show on Sunday, June 2 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the CAC at 154 Crowell Rd.

The show will be judged for inclusion and awards, with $1,700 in prizes to be distributed to the most outstanding pieces. This highly anticipated juried event showcases the talents of artists from across Cape Cod, featuring a diverse array of works in all mediums and subjects.

CAC Executive Director Amy Middleton said artists from all over the Cape have entered pieces in a variety of media, including oil, pastel, watercolor, pottery and more. The exhibition will be open for viewing from June 2 to July 1, and all artwork in the show will be available for sale.

Reception attendees will be treated to refreshments while mingling with the artists and fellow art lovers, making for an enriching and community-driven experience.

“We love to see our local community members enjoying the artwork alongside the artists that created them at the reception,” Middleton said.

This year’s judge, Whitney Heavey, is a painter and also a past winner in the All Cape’s oil category.

“Winning the All Cape First Prize in Oils in 2007 was a pivotal moment early in my career, as it was from seeing my work in that show that led to Sally Munson (Bohman) offering me my first gallery representation at the Munson Gallery in Chatham,” Heavey said. “She has represented my work since then! Chatham and the Creative Arts Center are dear to my heart, and I am honored and humbled to jury this show!”

Middleton explained that the Jack Garver Award is the highest honor awarded in this show.

“It is named after Jack Garver, internationally-renowned watercolorist, who was a longtime friend, member and instructor at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham,” Middleton said. “Jack enjoyed a long career painting and teaching, was a member of the American Watercolor Society, Salmagundi Club New York, New England Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, Taos National Society of Watercolorists, the Watercolor USA Honor Society, The Artists’ Fellowship and lived in West Chatham for 43 years. His family has created the The Jack Garver Memorial Award to recognize outstanding artistic achievement in the Annual All Cape Cod Art Exhibition at the Creative Arts Center.”

As always, visitors are encouraged to explore the Creative Arts Center’s galleries, which are open and free to the public from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
