Beer And Bones Returns June 8
HARWICH – The air outside the community center on Saturday, June 8 will be laced with the sweet scent of smokey barbecue when the chamber of commerce holds its second annual Beer and Bones BBQ Competition.
“As we continue to grow this event we have made some changes from last year’s already successful and very popular event,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cyndi Williams.
One of the major changes will be a guarantee that the event will be conducted outside in the field behind the community center. The plan last year was to conduct the event outside, but rain caused the relocation, and while Beer and Bones drew a large crowd, inside the community center made for tight quarters. Another change is in the timing of the event, which was shifted this year from early evening to noon to 5 p.m.
Williams said she has been able to secure tents from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department allowing a more spacious gathering, rain or shine.
Beer and Bones is about showcasing local restaurants and beer companies and the quality of their products, said Williams.
“Who knew that Harwich and Cape Cod did BBQ so well? We did,” said Williams.
There will be four categories in which restaurants can compete: brisket, chicken wings, chili and ribs. For those with a sweet tooth, cupcakes from Brenda’s Cakes for all Occasions will be returning this year.
Several local beer companies will be on hand providing sample tastings of their brews, including Cape Cod Beer, Devil’s Purse and Hog Island, said Williams.
So far, 400 East Restaurant and Bar, Lanyard Bar and Grill and Red River Barbecue have committed to participate, and competition will come from over the town line in Orleans with Navillus Bar and Grill agreeing to participate. There will be country music beneath the tent with Canney Dean, formerly Tattoo Cowboy, on stage, Williams said
.
“We are sure to have more surprises as the fun gets closer,” said Williams.
