Mary I. Kolodzik

           

            INDIALANTIC, Fla. - Mary I. Kolodzik, formerly of Chatham passed away on June 13, 2018 at the age of 98. Mary was born in Boston on April 19,1920 to Lawrence D. and Mary (Mack) Harrington. She graduated from the Boston School of Business Education in 1941 and joined the U.S. Navy to work for the War Department in Washington, D.C. from 1942 until 1945. In 1944 she became the devoted wife of the late Albert G. Kolodzik, and they lived happily together for 63 years until his passing in 2007.

 

            In 1953 Mary graduated from Boston University and moved to Chatham where she taught the sixth grade at Chatham Elementary School for the next 26 years (1956 - 1983), an avocation she respected and thoroughly enjoyed. She was also an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an Honor Society for Women Educators. Mary had an enduring love of art and took up painting (tole, oils, and watercolors) for relaxation as well as traveling in-country and abroad with Glenn, and eventually becoming a Florida snowbird. She was known by many to be a kind and caring person who embraced the roles of wife, mother, friend, and teacher with sincerity.

 

 

            Mary is survived by her sister Audrey Kelly of Burlington, age 99, and is the loving mother of Eileen Segerson (Robert), Grandmere to Ingrid Morelli (Edward) and grandchildren Owen, Jackson, and Liberty of Pensacola, Fla. Mary was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Rollins of Tucson, Ariz.

 

            A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10 AM, followed by interment at Union Cemetery in Chatham.
