CHATHAM – The Women of Fishing Families (WOFF) will sponsor the annual Blessing of the Fleet at the fish pier on Saturday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rev. Brian McGurk of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church and Amy Middleton of the First Congregational Church will lead the ceremony with a blessing for fishermen, their crews and their boats for a safe fishing season. There will be performances by bagpiper Sarah Marchio, traditional fiddle music by the Clancys, Fish Tales with Shareen Davis and music performed by the Seafire Kids with guest performers Courtney Wittenstein and Shannon Neal.
After the ceremony, there will be live music from Earth Junior, a raw bar with Chatham Shellfish Company, the Pink Boot Bar with wine and beer from Devil’s Purse Brewery, with all proceeds go to WOFF. There will also be BBQ by Jordan Catering, ice cream with the Local Scoop, family activities including a bounce house, fishermen competitions including shucking and rope coiling, food offered at the Chatham Fish Pier Market and new WOFF merchandise to benefit the organization.
There will be limited parking at the top lot at the pier. A shuttle will be provided by Monomoy Community Services from the Chatham Elementary School parking lot on Depot Road.
The Blessing of the Fleet is sponsored by all of the above event vendors plus Tidal Marketing, Whole Foods Market, Shop Ahoy Liquors, Watermark/Trap Dock Press and Quali-T. The town of Chatham and the Chatham Harbormaster Department also provide support for the event.
WOFF is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting Cape Cod fishing families and the greater fishing community on Cape Cod by providing an active support network, community assistance funds and fisheries education. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
