Francis “Friendly Frank” John Lapinski 78, died peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at home in Harwich.
Frank was born in Bayonne N.J., grew up in Far Rockaway, N.Y., raised his family in Kent and West Hartford, Conn. Frank was the beloved son of the late Frank and Anna Lapinski. He is survived by his brother Dennis R. Lapinski and his wife Diana of Las Vegas, Nevada; his daughter Laura and her husband Jim., and their children, Colleen, Lauren and James; his daughter Lanna Walsh of Marblehead and her children Hunter and Annabelle; his son F. John Lapinski and his wife Amy Middleton of Chatham and their children Jan, Christian and Trey; and former wife and friend Diane.
Frank owned a successful chain of gas stations in New York and Connecticut from the 1960’s until his retirement to Vero Beach, Fla. in 1988. He enjoyed his retirement for about 4 years before getting bored playing golf and going to the beach every day. He relocated to Hallandale, Florida and went back to his roots pumping gas (at a self-service gas station) for the son of his long-time mentor from New York. When not working or volunteering at a local hospital, “Friendly Frank” as he was now known, took full advantage of all the attractions and nightlife that South Florida offered. In 2005, he relocated to Pine Oaks Village in Harwich to be near his family and grandchildren.
There he could always be found on his back patio working on his year-round tan, cocktail in hand, entertaining his many friends and grandchildren with stories of his crazy life’s adventures.
A Celebration of Life for Friendly Frank will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2017, 3:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Main St., Chatham, MA.
A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall and the family invites friends to join them in Frank's honor. Donations in his memory may be given to:
