MSBA Approves Monomoy High Design, Funding
The Massachusetts
School Building Authority's board of directors voted Wednesday to
approve the schematic design and funding for the new Monomoy Regional
High School.
The district is
eligible to receive reimbursement of 51.53 percent on the project, with
a maximum total facilities grant for the school of $29,696,270, the MSBA
announced in a press release Wednesday afternoon.
The Monomoy Regional
School Committee has endorsed the plans at a projected cost of $64.7
million. Chatham will vote on borrowing the money at a special town
meeting Aug. 27; Harwich will vote on the funding the following evening.
After the vote, the
next step is for the district and the MSBA to enter into a project
funding agreement, which will detail the scope and budget and set forth
the terms and conditions under which the district will receive funding
from the agency.
“The
Model School initiative has been a resounding success, and I’m excited
that Monomoy’s needs are a good fit for the program,” state Treasurer
Steven Grossman said in a press release. “By participating in the Model
School program and utilizing the best design elements from other
successful school construction projects, the district increases its
reimbursement rate, saving money for local taxpayers.”
